Windows 8 You need to use an account with administrator privileges to install windows 8.1

Situation: Windows 8.1 won’t install as expected

The Problem:
After all Windows Updates are applied to Windows 8 you would normally be able to get your free upgrade to Windows 8.1 from the App Store with no problems.
In this case when attempting to download Windows 8.1 it said “You need to use an account with administrator privileges to install windows 8.1”
The default user account is already an Administrator, so this wasn’t the issue.

The Fix
– Go to Control Panel>All Control Panel Items> Windows Update
– At the bottom left side click on “Installed Updates”
– Find the update KB2871389 and uninstall it(you can also search using the box at the top right)
– Restart the computer
– Go back to checking Windows Updates to find the same update(KB2871389) and install it back into the computer
– Restart computer again

Attempt to get 8.1 from the App Store again
